Great mailbag as usual but I respectfully disagree about Beterbiev beating Bivol. If this fight happened a few years ago then maybe but Beterbiev will be 39 in a few weeks and fighters can get old in one night. Look at Wilder! I see Bivol by unanimous decision or late stoppage.

I enjoy Breadman's take on things. That said, Ennis is obviously being protected. To say that he doesn't choose who he faces is true.....his team and promoters have kept him away from real danger for his entire career. Villa was an ok fighter with zero defense and his power is not elite. He tagged Boots often and Boots did not have the power to stop him, it was an accumulation stoppage.
As the whole argument is that Ennis is the next megastar.....Bud stops both Karen and Villa, and likely early. Ennis KO'd cans and is called a killer. Crawford has been KO'ing top 10 guys over and over and people criticize his resume. Lol. Makes zero sense. Bud has the power to hurt good fighters with one shot. He has a far better ring IQ than Ennis. He is just obviously alot better IMO.
That said, I hope to see Ennis finally KO a few top quality guys and unify divisions, certainly. He is a talented charismatic fighter and the sport badly needs that right now. As I said in another thread, his team is protecting him from the top guys to keep the dream alive. If he gets clipped and stopped, his value plummets, which is wrong, but in this post Floyd era, an undefeated fighter is "the best".
Also, I think Biev smashes Smith without much problem and then, yep, loses half the fight to Bivol before clocking him and stopping him. The caveat being he could get old overnight. But if he stil at 80% of what he has been, he is too strong and a machine.harry-greb

Do you have any links to articles where other fighters have called out Ennis - and not just those looking to get name value before one of their own fights.

Breadman pointed out that Ennis handled a common opponent a lot easier than Stanionis and so that could likely be a reason that Stanionis' team keeps Stanionis away from Ennis.

I don't even like Haney , but unlike you , I know something about boxing. Haney is no duck.

Top boxers are not scared. They fight extensive amateur careers and run across heavy hitters and big time talent. Not saying that they don't all assess risk reward, but I don't think any of them are rerrified of Ennis. Especially after Karen and Villa. Staninois says he wants it. I don't think Boots team is too kean on it.
There is always risk vs reward assessment, but at this point, I can remember three years ago watching Boots smash a can on an undercard and he was being hyped up then. He isn't 20, or 22, or 25. He is approaching 30 and has not fought one real threat. He calls out Bud when Bud has a fight. Bud offered him a shot when he ended up fighting Ava, Boots turned it down. I remember seeing video where Boots dad said they weren't ready for Bud at that point.
Something screwy with that situation. If Boots is really that much of a destroyer, offer Staninois a nice deal and make the fight. One beatdown of a top level guy and Spence's value skyrockets. He is talking about fighting frickin Barrios.
Boots handlers are not willing to put him in with a real threat. Period.
