Well it's kinda like with Gatti the fans forgive the flaws because they are gone. I think if he had lived he had some entertaining fights left but at the elite he seemed finished.

but he lost to a ww castillo, a ww clottey, and he lost on the scales when he fought casamoyer for the 3rd time. If he went to 140, i think he could have made some noise, but he wasn't being managed right. Just think him and shane was tight and neither made the best career decisions.

Chico did what he had to do to survive. He took the point deduction but made use of the recovery time. It wasn't a dirty win. And obviously a fight like that leaves an impression. It was his best win and his last win. Fans remember him for goin all out in his fights. He had a good career. I don't get this thread.

In a way corrales was smart though. HE seen Freitas do the mouthpiece thing to him and learned and used it to buy some time. And the ref took points away so it worked out

Anything that happened to Chico after the first Castillo fight I do not care for. AFter the first one it was clear that fight took everything away from him. He was not in his prime anymore and was broken down. He could no longer even make weight himself. In my eyes he was a warrior

I wouldn't say that his career achievements have been inflated. Corrales lost a point due to spitting out the mouthpiece and was put into a situation in which he needed a KO to win, and he got the knockout.

fighters have always spit their mouthpieces out like that, nothing Corrales did was unusual, especially in such a brutal fight like that, how anyone can pass judgement on a guy who is clearly hurting and almost out is beyond me.

At the time I watched it,I thought the stoppage was premature but when looking at the slow motion replay of the finish,it was the right call.

                  The 80's had Pryor-Arguello
                  The 90's had Chavez-Taylor
                  The 00's had Corrales-Castillo

Chico was a killer at 130 before his fight with Floyd and even after that beating he was able to come back and get a whole host of nice wins leading to the JLC fight.

Comming back from such a resounding defeat is not easy in boxing especially when the fighter is used to being the one dominating, to me Chico gets a lot of credit for that.
