  • Comments Thread For: Dmitry Bivol On Jai Opetaia: "I Want To Finish Business In My Weight, Then We Can Make Fight"

It's been a beautiful, yet frustrating two years for Dmitry Bivol. In 2022, the Russian star essentially gave oddsmakers the middle finger as he was viewed as a gigantic underdog against Canelo Alvarez. After 12 rounds, he found himself on the winning side of things, eking out a unanimous decision victory.

Sounds good to me but it's a bit of a mad one a small LHW is considering a move to cruiserweight.

      That’s a tall order.

jai is a very good prospect. He’s like Usyk but with more punching power.

I don't know. As the above posters have mentioned, Bivol at cruiser sounds pretty crazy. Packing on that much muscle or fighting with a bit more chub would surely limit his effectiveness and what makes him great. Fighting at cruiser but well below the 200 lbs limit probably isn't a great idea either.

Bivol and Beterbiev appear to be maxed out. Benavidez has the frame like Gilberto to move up. Opetaia sleeps both of them on the same card.

Would I be in a minority if I said I would rather Bivol stay at LHW and defend for at least a few years? I normally wish fighters to progress in weight, but Bivol is one of those rare fighters who most likely can't and still be as effective. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know.

Bivol seems to like a challenge. If he gets past Beterbiev then this makes sense as the next step. Great match up.

There you go. Fight Beterbiev finally (he is going to be 39 this year, they waited too long to make this) then fight Opetaia.

Whilst Bivol is undoubtedly talented, he isn't a big light heavy and might struggle at cruiser.
