I was having a debate with my brother about this topic. They fought each other as kids, so they were always around the same size. Both fighters esentially started at lightweight and moved to 147 and 154.
They fought each other for 24 rounds as pros. At 147, and again at 154. Shane has a close-but-clear victory in the first fight. And a very controversial decision in the second fight.
They are both boxer/punchers with pop. Oscar's Sunday punch is his left hook - primarily from being a natural lefty. Shane developed a left hook later in his career, but his money punch has been his overhand right.
They both lost pretty consistently against their best opposition. Oscar to Tito, Hopkins, Mayweather and Pacquiao. Shane to Winky, Forrest and Cotto.
Oscar was an average middleweight. Competitive with Sturm, and took some rounds from Hopkins. Shane never went above 154, but he was overmatched by Winky Wright.
These guys did fight common opposition, and it would appear that Oscar's power had greater impact on the opponents:
Oscar was able to avoid a steroided Vargas' strength, and then hurt Vargas and TKO him. Shane chose to trade with Vargas, and while never hurt, Fernando's eye didn't hold up and Mosley got the TKO. El Feroz was on fumes by the second Shane fight.
Oscar hurt Mayorga bad. Knocked him down in the first round, and finished him off in 6. Shane struggled with mayorga. Mosley got a beautiful KO last-second (literally) on a fight that was up for grabs if it went to the cards.
Oscar stopped Leija in 2 rounds. Jesse james went 9 with Shane.
Oscar went the distance with John-John Molina. Shane stopped Molina in 8.
Oscar hasn't knocked out top guys, losing to most. But he did knock down a prime Quartey. DLH stopped Chavez move on a bloody face. Since he moved to WW, Shane had not stopped a quality opponent until Margarito.
Based on having watched both their careers, who do you feel has more power?....and why?
