  • Favourite Showtime memory.

With Showtime boxing having their final broadcast tonight, what’s your favourite memory of boxing on Showtime?

Mine is a fight that happened nearly exactly a decade ago, Broner vs Maidana. I was always a big Maidana fan and I really enjoyed watching him humble AB. The commentary was great that night too, think it was Paulie, Bernstein and Mauro, there was genuine excitement and shock about what was happening.

I always think of that as a Sky fight tbh, they broadcasted it in the UK and had their own commentary team, not sure if I’ve ever watched the Showtime version.

Tsyzu knocking out Zab was crazy, too. That's waaaay up there for me.

It's funny, because I feel I got hooked on boxing with HBO. My first serious fight was watching Pacquiao vs Barrera 1. Since then I was hooked to their telecast and thought Showtime was the enemy, lol. I never liked their style in comparison to HBO.

Eventually I gave in and tuned in. My first real watch of Showtime was when Kostya Tszyu had his rematch with Sharmba Mitchell. Since then, I watched Showtime as equal to HBO. I still favored HBO, but tuned in to Showtime.

With HBO out, I'm able to appreciate Showtime more. It sucks that the best productions in boxing are both gone. I hope the ball is ready to be picked by some talented companies.
