Hey, Thread
I was scheduled to fight yesterday, and my opponent weighed a grotesque 24 pounds over the contracted limit. We both weighed in on official State scales, so the fight should have been official, and the contract sealed.
Instead, the promoter paid me half of my travel ($250) [after I drove 12 hours, and didn't get my hotel information until three hours after I arrived into town], and wanted me to overeat and put on ankle weights to come up to my opponent's weight.
The contract was for 190. I weighed 184. My opponent was 214.
I refused. That's foul, and I lost nearly 30 pounds between my last fight and now; I want that reflected on Boxrec.
So, the promoter refused to pay my purse unless I fought an exhibition, or someone else. I refused again. He paid the remainder of my travel, and the commission did not force him to pay my purse, because on the contract, the space was blank where it said how much I would be paid if my opponent didn't make weight.
I drove 24 hours, lost six days worth of work between my parents and I (who came with me), and spent $350 on gas and a hotel, to make $500.
This is ridiculous, and boxers are far too often treated like this.
So, I have reached out to the regional commissioner and Mauricio Sauliman via email.
We'll see if anyone really cares about the boxers, or if this sport is just as ****** as it has always been.
Attached are pictures of the weigh-in and my contract, and screenshots of where Mauricio said anyone in the industry can reach out for "humanitarian aide".
Thank you, Thread, for your advice, and let's see if justice can be served!
