You call that being drained. I call that being a weight bully. He had nearly 48 hours to rehydrate. I have no doubt he went back to the hotel and got on that drip line just like Benavidez and Zurdo do before they step in the ring. I talked to a guy down in Vegas (now in Mexico), been involved in the sport for 30 plus years as a trainer, and he said a lot of these guys are doing this. There's a law against it but no one enforces it. When Devin stepped in the ring, he was doing A-okay. The weight cut before the weigh-in? Yeah. I'm sure that was hell. But when he stepped in the ring at 160? No. He was doing just fine. Had he had 24 hours? You know, where it was an actual weigh in and not a ceremonial one? Yeah. Loma probably would have stopped him because he would have been weaker. But this 48hour rehydration period changes everything. Weight bullies. All of them.
A masterclass, a boxing clinic.
