Comments Thread For: Xander Zayas Twice Drops Jorge Fortea, Stops Him In 5th Round Of ESPN Co-Feature

Xander Zayas turned the pressure of fighting in his hometown into a net positive. The first career home game ended spectacularly for the South Florida-based Boricua, who scored a fifth-round knockout of Spain's Jorge Fortea. Zayas scored two knockdowns, the latter which produced the full ten count to end the fight at 1:37 of round five Saturday evening at Charles F. Dodge City Center in Pembroke Pines, Florida.

      ...didn't see this one.

It took him FIVE rounds to get Fortea out of there? Why?

Can they finally now put the kid in with a threat? We all know he has skill and he is talented. But at this point he needs a real test.

They literally announced he's fighting former Champion Patrick Texeria next who has a win against Carlos Adames

Are you kidding me? Obviously you never been in the ring, the kid did a spectacular job! Remember the opponent is a fighter also, what was he supposed to do rollover? No he's a fighter so give credit to Fortea for trying and credit to Zayas for his win!

Fortea is as C-level as they get.

If he wanted rounds, that's fine. Not against this opponent. Not when Zayas is being promoted as what Bum****a failed to be.

It's cool if they DON'T hype guys. They're hyping Zayas. He has to do better.

Like Torrez going the full eight against a straight 140-10 bum in Curtis Harper.

I love it when a fighter puts in body work. Xander looked really good last night. Calmer , more accurate and with a nice selection of punches. He's coming along quite nicely. He's just twenty one and only going to get better. As long as he stays focused the sky is the limit. I recommend the same thing to him that I do to any Caribbean fighter , get away from Miami. Move to Vegas or Southern California where you can get lots of great sparring , visit different camps ,and learn . Miami is too much of a honey trap.
