  • What Prograis needs to do to win?

I think he needs to do his best impersonation of Carl Froch vs Andre Dirrell here.

Froch stayed on him, didn't let him run, was willing to get hit to get his own offense in on a much faster mobile fighter.

A key thing Froch did was not cooperate with any holding, he threw Dirrell to the ground and while yes illegal for Prograis I think its worth a warning or a deduction here to discourage that behavior and put doubt in Devin's mind about his gameplan.

If he gets a free hand in a clench he has to use it, he said Devin has no power so don't worry about it then if both of you have one hand free just whack away, tuck and roll with what he might throw.

Is he that guy though? Froch because was very slow for a championship fighter, had that grit, and just did what he had to do.

The speed difference isn't so significant in this case but my concern is he'll just plod forward trying to land one big shot eating the jab and once Devin grabs him he'll just wait for the ref to break them on way to losing a wide UD

    Thoughts?

That's a really good question. Thought about this a lot.

First, because of Devin's jab, he's going to have to use his lead arm a lot to control that jab of Devin. Stick it out there, close down his avenue to punch. Usually Regis keeps it at his side and uses head movement to avoid it, but this time, he's going to have to change it up or else he'll be eating that jab all night long.

Second, I think he should go to the body in the first round. Close the gap with his jab and then straight or left hook to the body. Just keep doing that round after round for about four rounds. Once he has Devin expecting it and trying to anticipate it, then BAM! come over the top with a looping left. Fake like it's going to the body and then whip it up top. He'll crack Devin for sure. JoJo Diaz did this, and it worked perfectly. Just imagine if that had been Regis and not JoJo.

Third, and I just saw Atlas say the same thing. Regis can catch Devin dipping down with an a left uppercut. He can get him to dip, and then catch him as he comes down. Or, he can get him to dip and then cover over the top with his right, just like Boots did that that Canadian guy he KO'd. Those are definitely two things he can do.

Fourth, and this is something Atlas pointed out, he can follow him back on his step back with a straight left. That's what Loma was doing. He can catch Devin with that straight left, and Regis is athletic enough to do that.

But I really want him to try to get lead arm control in this fight. I think that's critical. Devin sets everything up with his jab. Everything comes off of his jab pretty much, so if he can take that away, he can limit Devin's 1,2s coming at him. If he can't do that, then there's a real chance Devin will piece him up all night long.

Certainly should invest in the body to slow Devin down when Devin is eating body punches he's going to grab though which will be a key issue I'm concerned about.

Yeah. I'm looking for a video where Prograis talked about the referee. He didn't mention the name but he knew who it was going to be, and he said he was happy with the choice because the ref is going to allow them to fight out of the clinch. I'm going to try to find the video where he said that. But if that's true, then that will definitely make this fight easier on the eyes!!
