10 REALLY COOL, FUNNY, GREAT moments from my amateur boxing reunions...
1. A few years ago in Boston, Kippy Diggs and Derrell Coley are reunited 25 years after their epic USA-TNF battle...listening to them go back and forth and hug and reminisce and argue about the fight was CLASSIC..
2. I think it was 2017 in Las Vegas...Roy Jones got there late, almost everyone had left already...only a small few of us were still there to see Roy Jones walk in and reunite with his 1988 Olympic teammate Kelcie Banks for the first time SINCE THEY LEFT SEOUL
3. Also in Las Vegas, I think 2016 this time, Mike McCallum and Alex Ramos reunite more than 25 years after their fight in the NYC Golden Gloves...in a fight that Alex winning it actually saved his life, prevented from taking the trip a month later to Poland on a plane that would crash, killing everyone on board.
4. Lawrence Clay-Bey and Luis Ortiz meet at Foxwoods Casino 38 YEARS after Luis defeated him at 65 pounds at Marc Anthony's on Wethersfield Ave in Hartford. Neither of them had no idea they had even boxed each other in 1977 until that week.
5. Irish Micky Ward meets Hartford's Tony Judge at Foxwoods in 2016 for the time since 1980...Roy Jones showed up a little while later and gave EVERYONE tickets to his fight the following night...
6. Troy Schoolboy Wortham meets up in Harlem with both Pedro Villela and Kenny Butler just over 30 years after he fought both of them, Villela at the Civic Center and Butler on ESPN
7. In Detroit earlier this year at Thomas McGhee's, Shannon Brggs had a bunch of us (Milton McCrory, Bronco McKart, Tarick Salmaci, Boom Boom Johnson, Montell Griffin, Randall Crippen, Patrick Byrd etc etc) on film do a one by one roll call of LET'S GO CHAMP"
8. At Louisiana in 2019 I meet my former opponent Glen Modicue for the first time since our National Golden Gloves semifinal fight...in 1988
9. In Los Angeles in 2018, Buddy McGirt and Felix Nance met up fr the time since they fought each other on 1984.
10. At the same event in L.A., I met up with Michael Nunn in 2018 for the first time since our 12 round fight on ESPN in 1995.
