Comments Thread For: Ryan Garcia: I Thought I Did Good Especially With My First Fight With Derrick [James]

Ryan Garcia and Derrick James seemed to gel quickly in their first fight together. The lone exception was the fighter's odd use of the Philly shell defense in his eventual eighth-round knockout of Mexico's Oscar Duarte. Among the different looks and techniques that came with Saturday's win at the Toyota Center in Houston, that part will likely no longer remain in the rotation.

He can say that now because he won the fight. He was not listening to his corner.

That ******ass shoulderroll actually helped him out. The idiot ref warning duarte and babying cryan helped alot.

Overall a shlt performance against a shlt opponent. It was made worse when he called an even worse opponent out after the fight

Ryan needed this. Last thing his followers remember is him losing. Badly.

Ryan is an immensely talented young man. I hope his teaming up with James bears fruit. He can make his life much easier if his willing to listen to James and work of that lighting quick jab. The 140 lbs division is scary deep with talent. Great fights coming our way. Stay tuned!!!

That shoulder roll looked horrible, but still better than nothing. Leaning back with his head high is worse. Plus I never saw a Mexican shoulder roll before. Something like a white rapper.

Once he used his feet and quit the shoulder roll he did well. Duarte is slow and needs a still target so once Ryan moved laterally it helped him get off first.

I was hoping Ryan lost but Im not going to take anything away from him. I think he will do well against any Orthodox fighter at 140-147. A good Southpaw on the otherhand will eat Ryan up.
