Comments Thread For: Wallin on Joshua: Coming In on Short Notice Against a Southpaw, It's Not a Good Idea; I'm Gonna Show Him

Heavyweight contender Otto Wallin feels the conditions are all too favorable for him to spring an upset over Anthony Joshua. The New York-based Swede is set to challenge London's Joshua, the former unified heavyweight titlist, in the main event of a stacked fight card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Dec. 23. The card also features Deontay Wilder vs. Joseph Parker, Dmitry Bivol vs. Lyndon Arthur, Daniel Dubois vs. Jarrell Miller, Jai Opetaia vs. Ellis Zorro, and Filip Hrgovic vs. Mark De Mori.

Surely never having beaten anyone in the top-10 is worse preparation?....

AJ has fought the best fighter and southpaw at heavyweight. So, he's well experienced with southpaw. AJ is going to pick his shots carefully and once he catch him with a bomb it's over.

I hope Ben puts some smoke up his arse , if he looks bad or loses again then it's time to go and spend the cash.We really need to see Joshua alive and kicking here . I expect Wilder to do his side so that would set up a decent tussle , not quite the anticipation of six years ago but decent enough, but another loss from either or looking bad doing it , then it's time to move over.

If AJ can come close to beating Usyk, I do not see how he does not handle Wallin easily.

He didn't come close either time , he did better in the second but was nearly stopped in the first , rd 12 ..ready to go , under big fire and not punching back. Uysk will prove how good he is or isn't in February, if he gets hammered it will give Joshua a real bad look.

It's true Joshua was having to weather a storm in the twelfth of the first, putting all his focus on just finishing rather than even attempting to attack Usyk by that point. It's also true, though, that in the second fight, Joshua had Usyk in trouble in the ninth. What was so remarkable for Usyk was how well he was able to come back in the tenth -- and was the point that Joshua must have known he wasn't going to win the second fight either.

Wallin's claims of short notice are empty regardless. First, the fight was announced on 15 Nov, five and half weeks before the fight. Presumably Joshua had already decided on Wallin before then, so no reason to think he won't have had a full six week camp to prepare. Second, this will be his third fight against a southpaw in his last five, so it's not exactly ****** territory.

Another loss for Joshua could be career-ending. He wouldn't have taken this fight if he didn't like his chances either.

Plus, Josh already knew he was fighting a 3rd time this year so don't know if the short-notice thing applies, Wal.

Huh? The second was a close split decision. The first was not a blowout

Agreed. He did not take this fight if he did not think he could win. Also we all knew he was fighting in December, so not sure how this is short notice.
