Will Heavyweight ever recover as a weight division?

I believe there was a time when the top heavyweight boxers were considered the top boxers overall. It'd be a joke now to think the highest level of boxing skill is found at HW, it's very arguable it's the least talented division.

Will this ever change? Is it a matter of high quality HW sized athletes just going to other sports now?

The narrative has been that America's athletic big men go into other more lucrative sports now where earnings are more assured than in boxing's political minefield. This is obviously a US-centric narrative and neglects the many big men from other parts of the world who can and do dominate.

Is this generation really that bad? Usyk, Joshua, Fury and Wilder are good quality boxers, as are Parker, Ortiz and Ruiz. There is some exceptional talent in the lower weight classes such as Crawford, Haney and Inoue. But there's also a lot of mediocre talent down there.

Which makes sense in this internet age. An edgelord with self-professed mental health problems is considered "bad" because he behaves like a cretin on social media.

Usyk just got 1 punch KOed by an absolute bum

Fury got knocked down, bashed up from pillar to post and lost a comprehensive decision to a guy in his first boxing match

i can’t even make this chit up. Boxing is a joke
