It's all conjecture, but it's slowly becoming more and more factual. The trophy case of Canelo Alvarez is bordering on ridiculous at this point. The 33-year-old has won world titles as a junior middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and in the light heavyweight division. It isn't just the championship hardware that he's racked up but also the skills he's displayed time and time again.

Canelo is never going to be an "all-time great". He will be known a s a really good fighter with an all-timer chin. He lost two fights to his only truly great rival, GGG, given gift cards on both of them, and everyone knows it. Floyd past his prime made him look like an amateur. Bivol kicked his ass well, and the judges still tried to gift it to him.

He fought and beat some good fighters, most if not all past their primes and cherry picked. Benavidez will F him up.

He goes down in history as a top guy in his generation. Not all time. Mostly hype.

I love Teddy, and his boxing knowledge is great.

I do thnk he gets a bit too critical of Canelo. I wondered why, and I am guessing it's because of the positive test years ago for clenbuterol.

I think he has doubs about his innocence. I don't know, but I gave Canelo the benefit of the doubt.

Of course, would love to see fights where Canelo, Benavidez and Morrell fight each other.

I completely disagree. While Benavidez is finally starting to show he's a legitimate top 3 168lber, assuming Canelo goes on to beat Benavidez, I don't think it'll rank any higher than his win over Danny Jacobs.

Canelo somehow rematching and beating Bivol - which I don't see happening - would rank far higher and do more for his legacy than beating Benavidez.

This is how most logical fans see it and how people in boxing see it. When canelo tried to drain badou jack 20 pounds and give him a rehydration clause, Jack told him to fook off and go fight Benavidez. Former Mexican greats such as Marquez and Barrera have publicly stated they believe canelo needs to fight Benavidez. The only ones condoning the avoidance are Canelo’s American fans.

Canelo really should have fought Benavidez a few years ago... When he had the WBC strap and was too young and not focused (i.e. getting popped for Coke and then coming in overweight). Canelo probably would have dominated a younger Benavidez.

Now, every day that passes, makes the beating Canelo will take, worse.

the problem with a lot of top names is that they avoid one way or another the toughest fights 'on paper' at the time, benny is now seen in that light, real champs bite the bullet and make those fights 'now', not marination, not lets wait and see, later etc etc, this is a test for canelo, he shows no signs of wanting to pass it though, maybe people power will have an effect on him

makes no difference if benny doesnt turn out to be as good as advertised, at this stage he 'might be' so thats enough and all he can do right now

He did the same thing to GGG.

Waited out GGG because, “he didn’t have a belt,” when both bouts were close and competitive and at the time, were the bouts where Canelo was pushed to the brink.

What did he do? Instead of realizing that GGG is his generational rival and giving an immediate rematch after ‘18, in a bout that was seen as very close, he waits him out until GGG is clearly past his best, in his 40’s, and when Canelo needed a comeback bout after biting off more than he can chew against Bivol.

Tbh I don't think the deciding factor will be wether or not he fights a guy who's best win is Plant.

Canelo won't be an ATG because guys like Toney and RJJ in their primes were in 168 or around the class. Then, add in PEDs, catchweight, rigged cards, suspect fights all over the place vs boxers and other buffoonery' but he probably get the 2nd spot behind FMW for non-heavyweight money earner.

But add to your calendar he is going to beat Benavidez.
