There was something about fighting Thurman, Margarito, Khan and Paul Williams that just didn't sit well with dude. Even ducked out of the division to avoid most of those fighters

Cotto was phenom, but he was also a natural 140 pounder whose talent and punching power allowed him to thrive at 147-154. 140 was lackluster so he moved up with victories over Mosley, Margarito, Martinez and some other elite fighters which were really hard fought and worn him down by the time he fought Canelo. (Two being bigger than Cotto and he had already suffered some brutal losses to Pacquiao and Margarito before beating them)

I say that victory is better overall over the likes of Maidana by a lot, but he isn't physically that much bigger than either Maidana and Mayweather.

no i agree in regards to where he started and stature but he carried the weight way better than Floyd and busted Floyd up a fair bit in their fight and controlled the clinches. Floyd really had to fight his way to win that one

I have to rewatch the fight, but I don't think I could say fighting Cotto is the same as fighting rangy punchers like Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez. He acclimated to the divisions, and beat the likes of Margarito and Martinez, but he doesn't have a major size advantage over Floyd. That bout makes me think how interesting it be a bout between Duran and Mayweather at 135-147. But doesn't give me an idea on how competitor whose physically longer than Floyd would fair.
