Mike tyson has two underrated hof wins. Holmes and spinks.

No one gives tyson enough credit for dismantling two p4p fighters at the time. These wins are extremely impressive. Now for the newbs and fan boys who started watching boxing yesterday, let me explain. This would be the equivalent of a hw fighter today at 5 10 who ko's fury in 4 rds then ko's usyk who moves up in weight to hw in 2 rds. Even that holmes would have wiped the floor with fury. Now let's go deeper into context.

Prior to facing tyson, holmes was 39 and past his prime, but he was still a top p4p fighter. Prior to facing tyson, he only had two close losses to spinks. After losing to tyson, holmes went on a 6 fight winning streak only then losing to holyfield in a close fight. Prior to the loss of holyfield he wiped the floor with a prime ray mercer who was in his prime and olympic gold medalist. Compare that with fury's win over Wlad who retired the fight after. Holmes was still a top hw after losing to tyson.

Now spinks prior to facing tyson was undefeated and p4p top 3 in the world. Tyson wiped the floor with him. Spinks had a higher reach, height, and weighed almost the same as Mike.

Prime tyson was almost unbeatable. The only guy that might beat him is a prime ali and prime foreman. And no i don't count the guy that fought douglas. He didn't train for that fight and cus had died already.

Today's hw era is the 2nd weakest of all time followed by wlad's era where he fought a bunch of euro bums.

An interesting point of view. Holmes went on to fight Evander Holyfield for all the belts 4 years later, and Oliver McCall for the WBC 7 years after Tyson. He lost both times, but he went 13-0 (6 KO) in all other fights, including taking Ray Mercer's 0 in a fight where Holmes was a 4/1 underdog. Holmes had a long post-Prime, but he is a legendary fighter overall.

Holmes was almost 40. Hard to give too much credit for that victory, although I am aware that Larry went on to win more fights afterwards.

Spinks was a good win. But he was a great light heavyweight not a great heavyweight.

Yep , he looked every bit over 40, just as Ali looked when Holmes tore him up, that Holmes would have given Tyson fits the old Holmes has no chance because his speed was gone and he was a light house, first to go is speed and reflex.

Spinks was a hell of a LHW, and there was a time when great LHWs were destroyed by HWS, Spinks was mentally terrified and was a natural LHW, he could box with HWs but he couldn't handle an aggressive HW, look at who he fought before Mike.
