Comments Thread For: Benavidez: Canelo Wants 'Easier Fights Out Of The Way, I'm A Threat To Him'

Former two-time super middleweight champion David Benavidez is clamoring to reclaim the crown that current undisputed king Canelo Alvarez now owns. Benavidez (27-0, 23 KOs) lost his WBC title twice for infractions outside of the ring, one due to a drug suspension in 2018,

Reading that there are talks about Canelo fighting Munguia in May, not exactly something I want to see after he fought against a heavily declined GGG, a gatekeeper John Ryder coming from a questionable split decision win against a declined Daniel Jacobs and a unactive Jermell Charlo who competed two divisions below. Then Munguia who just moved up from a lackluster division without a belt? What's next? bring up Crawford three weight divisions?

I think the plan will be Mungia, and then Crawford in Sept.

          Canelo ain’t fighting Crawford.

I’m Not a fan of Canelo, but why is fighting Munguia a problem? Dude is undefeated, sure he’s a lil overrated when using the eye test. But he’s a fair opponent. Not the most exciting choice to keep the fans happy. But that’s not the worst right choice I’ve ever seen.

Are you a real boxing fan? Why is Mungia who has done nothing in the division, jumping ahead of the rings number 1 contender for 3 years, a problem? jumping ahead of the toughest fight when he has no chance to beat canelo? jumping the most indemand fight? why is that a problem?

Has the fight with Munguia been confirmed? I know they've been musing about it the past few months, but anything official yet?

It's getting absurd how many people are stating that this guy is unbeatable at 168 when he went the distance against subpar opposition since his loss to Bivol. But apparently Benavidez hasn't earned the opportunity to fight him due to some weird standard only applied to him. He fought against Caleb to be the mandatory for Canelo yet isn't good enough to fight Canelo because he went the distance with Caleb with the dirty tactics displayed by David's opponent and ref, you would think Canelo's fanbase would be jumping with joy and target him immediately if they thought he was such an easy fight.

Very fair and mature interview by David. Good that he's fighting Andrade - that guy has also been avoided for awhile.

I’m a die hard boxing fan! I know EVERYTHING about the game. Which is why I’m not surprised by the fact that Munguia is a potential opponent. I know Canelo ain’t fighting Benavidez. I know he’s not gonna fight anyone that you or I would choose for him next. He rarely fights the “expected or desired” opponent. It’s just the game. So I don’t think Munguia is a surprise by any means.
