When fast fighters fight similar fighters, they become uncomfortable. He was running or hugging. To be fair, less in last few rounds.

Most entertaining fighter while backing up - Juan Manuel Marquez. Counters. Does not run or clinch as part of his strategy.

Shakur's defense already nullified the power. He just didn't throw anything back. Like, anything..

Because he has to open himself up to do that, he didn't want the risk of being countered, and Edwin was in the same boat he wasn't opening up for the very same reasons, the fight was a stalemate, neither wanted to take that extra risk, there was a lot of mental chess going on and not a whole lot of fighting.

Arum is right. You can't overtrain just because you like the gym. Shakur will obviously learn from this and look better next fight.

The Hater's Ball is going full force at his expense though. LOL.
no i think he had scared gut syndrome

Santos threw 50% more punches, don't pretend they were comparable. This injury stuff is total rubbish. Shakur felt the speed and power and got scared. Simple.

Both fighters were definitely not trying to get countered. I don't think either were scared necessarily so much as each guy not wanting to lose the chess match. Shakur's performances against way more proven fighters show he's naturally a defensive fighter who can trade when he needs to. I'd chalk this one up as just a bad day at the office. Now, if his next fight is the same way.. well, that's going to be hard to defend against. No pun intended.
