Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Apologizes To Mayweather, Ward, Crawford, Fans For 'Bad Performance'

I like you, pnut901, but the problem with Shakur is this isn't exactly an outlier performance. Maybe on the extreme of bad/boring, but he's pretty much always boring. His prior fight he was pretty good, but even the fights against Valdez and Conceição were boring. I remember Tim Bradley calling him out for being boring vs Nakathila. Unless a fighter is over the hill (Herring) or horribly out of their depth (Caraballo, Guevara, and everybody else he's KO'd) he's gonna be boring. Fine. Be that way. Win belts. But promoters, don't try to push him as some "attraction." Even Malignaggi who you KNEW wasn't gonna knock anybody out was good to watch.
Good point , he's very talented but not exciting. I agree with that. Some fighters are just like that, every round in their fights is just like every other round. I'd rather watch a less talented but more exciting fighter any day. It seems like Shakur is frustrated with being the talented but boring guy. I'm going to give him a pass since he was sick but another performance like that and he's going on my " Do Not Watch " list with Rigondeaux. I like the fighters that aren't scared to get hit and go to war. I like people with that same mentality.Comment

Yeah, Rigondeaux is the perfect example. He's fought entertaining fights sometimes, but mostly he's boring. I know boxing is hit and don't get hit, but you can do that and still be interesting (aka Floyd). His mentor, Crawford, has great/underrated defense, but he's also a killer. I'm not writing Shakur of yet. After he got heavily criticized for his performance against Nakathila he went out and put on a great performance, albeit against a guy in Herring who was old, slow, and doesn't have a ton of power. So, hopefully, he comes out next time with something to prove. And hopefully he gets a dance partner who isn't afraid of getting smacked in the mouth either. DLS was just as atrocious. Talked a big talk and didn't back it up. But, he was the B side. Hell, C side really. If Stevenson doesn't put on a great performance against a credible opponent next time out, he can kiss fights against the big names goodbye.

I love that last line of yours about people as well as boxers. I'm in that same camp.Comment

...yeah, Shakur didn't watch Mayweather/Baldomir. Floyd was tossing leather on a guy that just wouldn't go anywhere. Nowhere the same, that was NOT a bad Mayweather night. I suspect he mixed up Baldomir with Castillo maybe."I done seen Floyd in situations where he had bad performances versus Carlos Baldomir, other fighters, and he just got the win. And that’s all I was thinking – if Floyd could go in there and get the win on a bad night, I could, too.”

Zepeda is food for Shakur, he’s garbage LOL.
I don't think Shakur has the Power to keep Zepeda off of him. Too much activity from Zepeda. It's not Zepedas power is his constant pressure that gives his opponents problems. If no one can stop Zepeda with a power punch they will struggle with his pressure. I would prefer DLS vs Zepeda.Comment
