So, I don't know how many people have seen the main guy Shawn Porter, but I have seen most of his pro fights and I can tell you that this guy does not fight like Miguel Cotto at all.
If he resembles anyone, and he does, it is very much Shane Mosley interestingly enough. He is like a bigger version of Shane Mosley straight up.
Very quick, not a great boxer, very much a wild, fast brawler very similar to Mosley. Has decent head movement though and some good combinations, but if ever they (or anyone for that matter) needed to get ready for Mosley this guy would be such a perfect sparring partner. The resemblance is quite uncanny but he is not like a Cotto clone, and in fact doesn't really fight similar to Cotto at all and the more I've seen him the more I think it was an odd choice.
I have seen other fighters that are much closer to the way Cotto would fight than this guy. Cotto is really a pretty straight forward fighter and doesn't have anything that is spectacular or anything that you really need to think about a lot. So, I find it interesting that they have gotten this guy that fights without much of a jab, has much greater speed, less power or at least not as heavy handed and doesn't go to the body with the same gusto as Cotto when they would have been able to find someone that fights more like Cotto because it is quite a typical style.
Anyway, just an observation.
On the other hand though, if Pac can handle this guy he will handle anything that Cotto brings to the table because he is a big dude, has good power, is very experienced and is much better in terms of his speed, etc and foot work than Cotto so if Pac can handle this he shouldn't have any problem, but I wonder if he thinks he will be facing the same style in Cotto, because that would be wrong.
