Froch offers to step in for Calzaghe

Just saw this on the bbc website

British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion Carl Froch has offered to fight Brian Magee after Joe Calzaghe withdrew from Friday's fight.
Northern Ireland's Magee and Calzaghe were due to meet in Belfast, but the WBO were unable to sanction the bout.

"If the Board of Control clear it, I am happy to get on a plane right now and fly to Ireland," Froch said.

"I would knock him clean out with only 20 minutes preparation on the pads. I am that kind of fighter," he added.

The WBO has stopped Calzaghe's defence of his WBO super middleweight title against Magee because of a rule which prohibits a champion from fighting less than 60 days before an enforced mandatory defence.

Calzaghe was last month ordered to fight number one contender Mario Veit in Germany on 7 May.

Veit's promoters protested over the Welshman's match against Magee, and the WBO has accepted their complaint.

Froch is not worried about his fitness if he is called to step in.

"I was in training for a fight in Los Angeles last month that unfortunately got cancelled, but I haven't been out of the gym since, so I am **** on weight," he said.

Now that would make the card a lot more interesting but I doubt magee will agree

Magee will not want to fight Froch in a non title fight, its a pity because it would be a good fight for froch. ive seen froch a few times and he looks as if he is going to go all the way to the top in the next few years

Its not McGee`s fault that this has happend. Also, i`d prefer Calzaghe to fight mcGee non title as a warm up but he`ll only go and hurt his hand and delay another fight. I can`t see Calzaghe going to Germany to fight. But if he did....he`s blitz Viet in a few rounds.

I really doubt that Calzaghe goes to Germany. The guy is hard pressed to fight twice in one year and doesn`t fight anyone with a heartbeat of late. Yes, Veit is a soft touch, i saw the first fight and i remember why it was a first round KO. Veit is sooooooooo straight up, he is really tall and Calzaghe was lickin his lips because the leverage he got on a left hook ( yes, Calzaghe the southpaw using the left hook ) litterary took Veit`s head off. i think the fight lasted about 80 seconds and Calzaghe only through 5 power punches. This is a very easy fight for Joe. Don`t blink!!
