Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson On De Los Santos: "He's Definitely The Best Available Option"

Fighting at 130 pounds became a bit too taxing for Shakur Stevenson. He may have grabbed two world titles, but once he was asked to defend his unified throne against Robson Conceicao, he realized that making weight was practically impossible.

Props to Stevenson for staying active against what appears to be risky opponent. DLS looks like a southpaw that can crack. Eye opening KO percentage.

“He’s definitely the best available option,” Stevenson told MillCity Boxing during a recent interview. “With everybody saying no.”

Except for Devin Haney, who said yes and made an offer.

Sure but also Shakur said nah on 25% but I'll go the belt group route to push getting a better cut & then Devin opted out which is why Shakur & EDLS are fighting for Devin's belt.

De los Santos is an easy fight for Shakur. Tank should be next for a real fight.

That sounds like a Shakur problem, unfortunately, not a Haney problem. You don’t try to play the forced negotiation card with the guy with 4 belts who’s been talking about moving up for his next fight.

Haney can’t make 135 comfortably anymore, he would have just stayed for two big fights.

Shakur gave him zero incentive to actually go through with it. He became a financial hassle. Shakur gave him a way out, an off ramp. And Haney took it. So technically, Haney didn’t say no. He said yes and here’s my offer. Shakur said no and that was all Haney needed to escape 135 unscathed.

Devin didn't walk away unscathed hes no longer undisputed. If Devin was done done at 135 he wouldn't have even made an offer & he wouldn't still have 3 belts.

I'm POSITIVE if Devin could have outplayed George in a similar way he would have, but he was in a beggars can't be chosers position. He tried to act like Shakur was in the same position he was in & got shown he wasn't. Thats all I'm saying.

This is the fight I've been looking forward to the most out of all the remaining cards for this year.

Call me crazy, but I smell an upset, or at least a real fire fight. Don't disappoint me Edwin.

He moved up on his own accord, dropped the belt on his terms, outgrew the weight class. I would say that’s unscathed.

If he had the belt still I'd agree. He doesn't so I don't.

All in all both guys made the best move for their immediate future so it is what it is, but I'd chalk up the public view of the W's on Shakur's side with this situation as I think most would that know the full story & it feels like most don't even know the full story they just know the 25% part.
