Hopkins issues ultimatum!
$1.5 million offer on the table for now...
Undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins said today that Goldenboy Promotions has made top contender Jermain Taylor a $1.5 million offer to fight on July 16. "Jermain Taylor has his opportunity, and his opportunity in the next 24 hours is probably over," Hopkins told Associated Press. "We're not begging these guys to fight." The story quotes Taylor's promoter, Lou DiBella, as saying Hopkins should begin looking for other opponents and that Taylor would probably do better in a purse bid. Hopkins named Felix Sturm as a possible foe if the Taylor fight doesn't pan out.

Meanwhile, Stuart Duncan, manager of IBF mandatory challenger Sam Soliman, lashed out at Hopkins. "Fight us by honouring your mandatory obligation or just give up the title now," Duncan said. "We’ve chased you for two years and now there should be no excuses....don’t rob other boxers of their right entitlement because of your own apprehension of getting into the ring with Soliman. What sort of a champion are you?"

Hopkins may have to give up his IBF belt if he doesn't fight Soliman next. Stay tuned.

Lacy would accept Hopkins' offer!
By Karl Freitag
With handlers of middleweight contender Jermain Taylor balking at Golden Boy Promotions' $1.5 million offer to face Bernard Hopkins, IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy told *********.com that he would be ready to step in. "We're very excited that he would take that fight," said Lacy. "It's just a YES we're looking for, just a three letter word." Lacy (19-0, 15 KOs), who has made two defenses of his IBF 168lb title, continued "The only thing we can do is present the challenge. It's all about him. He's the man. It's all about him taking it. We definitely would love the challenge." Regarding fighting at a catch weight, Lacy said "If he says we can do it at 160, what's wrong with doing at 164?" Lacy's promoter Gary Shaw told ********* that the fight would be easy to make. "We'll fight for 1.5," Shaw said. "We wouldn't need 24 hours [a deadline reportedly given to Taylor], we'd only need 24 minutes."

While no opponent has been selected, the ever-present Kevin McBride name is once-again circulating.
