Fighters take hard fights only if they have no other choice

When the fighter has a choice, he prefers easy fights.

Fury fought Klitschko and Wilder, because he had to. For the belt-s.

Canelo can fight whoever he wants. Who was his last choice? 2 divisions smaller guy. he is not even fighting super middleweights.

Andrade and Benavidez fight each other, because they have to. Nobody is paying them 50+ millions for fighting 2 division smaller men.

When Fury can make a choice, he choses....unranked Schwarz, unranked Wallin, Chisora 3x...

Hunter prefers fighting bums for a good money , over Hrgovic IBF eliminator.

So, don`t blame one fighter for taking easy fights. he is doing what are all other doing.

But wallin has been proven to actually be a tough fighter, back then when fury chose to fight him he was a nobody but now he’s a title contender.

It’s nothing new. You do realise it’s called prize fighting?

The Wallin win has surprisingly aged very well. I think he’s easily a top 10 HW.

It's got worse since the Mayweather era.

Has it really got that much worse? Joe Louis used to have a “bum of the month” club. Robinson often went “on tour” fighting overmatched opponents.

Fighters do have more control over their careers now, the biggest fights can take longer to happen. The commercial success of dragging out Mayweather-Pacquiao definitely popularised this marination bullsh**, but it did happen decades ago too, Leonard famously delayed fights with both Hearns and Hagler in the 1980’s.

For me, the biggest problem in the modern era, is promotional and network politics, they’re so opposed to working together. The fighters themselves will generally fight anyone if the money is right, as I said it’s always been about prize fighting.

Yeah as much as it can be frustrating for us fans, you can’t really hate on a guy for maximising their earning potential.

He was unranked at the time Fury fought him.
