Comments Thread For: Inoue-Tapales Undisputed Championship Targeted For December 26 In Tokyo

The final week of the year has been reserved to crown boxing's next male undisputed champion. BoxingScene.com has confirmed that event handlers have set aside December 26 to stage the Naoya Inoue-Marlon Tapales full unification bout. The pair of unified junior featherweight titlists will meet at a yet-to-be-revealed venue in Tokyo, as confirmed during the Ratings portion of the WBO's 36th annual convention Thursday in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

If he wins, 2 time Unidisputed, 4 Division world Champ. Is that P4P #1?

I'd say yes, most probably say no. Regardless, doing that by 30 is fking crazy

As much as Inoue is gonna be heavily favored to win this matchup, Tapales southpaw stance and style might present Inoue some problems(at least early on). He had a good technical showing against Akhmadaliev in a fight that coulda gone either way IMO, but southpaw matchups are always awkward for both guys bc they're not often seen. He's definitely gonna hafta bring some heat if he wants to last against, let alone beat Inoue. Inoue is just something different.

You have to factor in who he fought and did it against. And compare it to, say, Crawford. Who is also 2 time undisputed (almost 3 time undisputed.)

He made the best 126 pounder look Ordinary in his first fight at 126 and would be undisputed in just 2 fights at that weight class. I thought Steph was going to beat Inuoe due to size and good skills. Steph had no accidents, no eye injuries, no signs of difficulty making weight. But many would favor Bud because Spence is a bigger name. It's a tough one.

I respect the Fulton win a lot. Especially how dominant it was.

But you still have to put his opponents up against Crawford’s and Usyk’s then compare and contrast.

At the end its all about opinion. I see Canelo as the more accomplished, better Resume of all active fighters. But I see Crawford as the most skilled boxer in the world.

Quality of opposition > belt collection.

This will be a great matchup, with another opportunity for Inoue likely favored
to get all the belts. Like others have said... it's just crazy the level of talent he has.
Definitely looking forward to this one, to close out a solid year of boxing.
