Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Believes Brian Mendoza Beats Tim Tszyu

It takes a lot to impress Shakur Stevenson. Being a strong puncher or an all-out brawler isn't enough to get his attention. Stevenson loves an all-around fighter, one who can do it all, kind of like himself.

Mendoza is not active enough in a fight and Tszyu's timing has improved immensely. I tab Tim for winning this fight but it won't be easy.

I think its very easy to sleep on Tim Tszyu. He doesn't look flashy, but I been saying he's no joke. Tim is precise, he's pin point accurate. In the heat of battle he's always calm and his eyes are wide open. When ur punching, he's seeing every opening, and he only needs a split second to strike. His speed is deceptive. With his excellent distance and timing, he's much faster than he looks. I think the way he plods forward, ppl think he's heavy on his feet and slow, but this is not the case at all. He mskes u miss by just a fraction of an inch, and he's always balanced and ready to punch. And his hands are literally bricks. He follows a family tradition of conditioning his hands the way chinese martial artists do. When he hits you right, its a wrap. I see him doing to Mendoza, what Mendoza did to Fundora, catching him in between shots, and putting him away

Mendoza is a very live dog. Kudos to Tim for taking him on.

i just don't see the fight being as competitive as people are saying, Tim by mid rounds stoppage. Mendoza is a live dog but it's gonna take more than that to topple Tim. Tim is coming into his peak and has shown mass improvement in his last 2 fights while Mendoza was losing every round until he landed the hailmary on Fondura.

Tim is better than a lot of people think. I like his style , the pressure, accuracy, and hand speed is a lot to deal with. He's got pop in both hands, good punch variety , is physically strong, and he's got a motor. What's not to like ?

I've been conditioning my hands like that for forty years. They do a lot of damage when I've had to hit people. I've never gone looking for trouble, it's just that I had a job where I had to go hands on with a lot of people. I used to try not to punch them but sometimes had no choice.

Look at this. An excuse is already set for Mendoza if he loses the fight. It's a plus plus if he beats Tzsyu despite of not being more active. And it's not even like this is Brian's first fight for the year. It's his second fight!

Anyone who watches Tszyu objectively sees someone who improves with pretty much every fight.
He'll have some close rounds with Mendoza... but by mid-rounds Tim will have stopped him IMO.

Active as in throwing a lot of punches in a fight. He has power but is not a really active fighter.
