  • Comments Thread For: Warrington's Manager Disagrees With Stoppage, Ready To Make Wood Rematch at 130

Josh Warrington's manager, Steve Wood, is still replaying the events of Saturday night. With his man well on the way to becoming a three-time featherweight world champion, Wood watched on helplessly as Leigh Wood salvaged his WBA title with a stunning and controversial seventh round stoppage.

As dirty of a fight that Warrington fought, the stoppage was poor. Warrington went down at the bell. He got up and walked/staggered to his corner. Either the ref didn't know the bell rang, or he couldn't wait to stop that fight. He didn't even appear to give Warrington a standing count. It was like as soon as Warrington turned around from his corner to face the ref, the ref stopped the fight. Despite being rocked, Warrington could've been given the benefit of the doubt to clear his head in between rounds. Warrington was aware enough to know the fight was being stopped. Therefore, shame on the referee.

Warrington is only overhuped but lacking the skill to be star in boxing. He will get KO again in 130.

Josh has a proven hard head, but that only leads to worse beatings. Once Josh gets hurt, he looks like a drunk and it goes down hill. Then people start moaning about it after he eats the big one. They let it go too long, they cry. He gave the ref a reason.

Turning his back to the ref was enough. He either didn't
want to continue, or didnt have the clarity of the mind to understand he should be looking at the referee with eager puppy eyes (don't stop the fight, let me play, pleease). Either is a good enough reason for the stoppage.

The whole complaint about the stoppage is getting kinda old, but that last sentence got me...“Let’s say we got the WBC featherweight champion [Rey Vargas] in America. We could do that too.”

Yo, with Woods no longer in featherweight he may be the easier (keyword: easiER, not EASY) champion compared to Venado or Robeisy at featherweight, Rey Vargas isn't exactly a total pushover easy win for Warrington either.
Sure he lost his last fight when he tried to challenge for the super featherweight belt, but that was also when he attempted the division above for the first fight.
