  • Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Charlo Just Showed Up For a Paycheck, Boxing Needs Super Fights

Oscar De La Hoya is the latest key figure in boxing who's chimed in on the Canelo Alvarez versus Jermell Charlo fight. The Hall of Fame fighter turned promoter once backed both boxers but he was not pleased with Alvarez's one-sided beating and Charlo's listless performance.

Agreed on both points. When all eyes are on the sport, such as a big PPV, it hurts the sport from a broader appeal when fighters show up to lose and won’t fight. Promoters and matchmakers need to really watch how they do business from here on out. These cash grabs need to stop

Dumb ass promoter saying ****** **** ! Didn’t your next mega superstar Zurdo Ramirez did the same vs Bivol? He was worst than Charlo.

Charlo definitely showed up just for the check.

Not just about super fights. Cant keep having BS scores where the loser wins because he has a bigger name value.

Oscar always has his opinions, like he was going to run for president of USA. He was going to make a comeback to beat up Canelo. Then there is the documentary where he says all the stuff about him looking up at his mom before a fight was bull. Etc. etc.

"We have to come together. Promoters, Eddie Hearn, Al Haymon, Bob Arum, whoever is out there. Let's come together. I'm calling you out. Let's come together. Let's meet. The power of the minds and come up with something, because boxing can die. I'm calling you all out. Let's do this." - Oscar De La Hoya!

The fights are getting made, just that GBP is not promoting them! If Oscar and Eddie could play nice, DAZN could be a powerhouse! Oscar should set with a meeting with Eddie! That would be a good first step!

You don’t achieve happiness by just grabbing for the most pleasure in the shortest time. People who do that are exceptionally miserable. Happiness is a byproduct of living life well, with genuine altruism, clean morals, and courage to do what’s right even when nobody is with you.

Likewise, you don’t make the most money by just trying to seize the most cash in the shortest time. Money is a byproduct of doing something else really well. In the sport of boxing, the most money ends up being made by bouts that are arranged because everyone could see that the clash of two great talents would be a thrilling spectacle.

I've always viewed GBP as a vehicle for set up fights. 20-0 19KO's vs 17-9 3 KO's. Or some future star vs an old fat leatherface Mexican dude.
