Does the Hype For Cotto vs Pac Remind You of Cotto vs Margarito?

I had a discussion with a few of my colleagues about the upcoming fight with Cotto and Pacquiao and I can't help but find similarities with how people are looking at Pacquiao now and how Cotto was looked at prior to the Margarito fight and what was waiting for him on the horizon.

First off, I picked Margarito to win contrary to many people who believed Cotto would take Marg out, outbox him for 12 rounds, and so forth. If my memory serves me right, I recall Cotto already being mentioned in a fight with Oscar De La Hoya after a win over Margarito. There's wasn't a huge outcry of "Wait a minute...don't sleep on Margarito". You'd hear people mention it, but the majority still picked Cotto to win. Well, regardless of what people believe the outcome was caused by, he still took an L and fought his ass off against a much bigger guy regardless of how hard Cotto was landing on Margarito.

The more I see how they're billing this fight and how Pacquiao is this overwhelming favorite while sorta ignoring what Cotto's bringing to the table, it reminds me too much of how people overlooked Margarito and were already looking towards Dec for a potential Cotto vs Oscar. I mean, they're already discussing dates for Pac's next fight as if Nov 14th has come and gone already. I don't really believe in any type of Karma whatsoever, but more times than none when 1 dude or 1 team are held on a high pedestal completely ignoring the task at hand and looking ahead to the future, you're left with disappointment. I got a strong feeling we're going to see the same situation play out Nov 14th. People are REALLY selling Cotto short.

If Cotto fans haven't learned this already, Pac fans may need to keep this line close to them, "Don't count your chickens before they hatch".

Yeah, all these threads & posters writing Cotto off add fuel to the fire and make me more and more anxious, wanting to see the fight even more and more.
I can't tell you how pumped and fueled I am for this fight.
No disrespect to Manny and his fans, he has proven himself a great warrior and is a kind person but on November 14, I hope Cotto smashes him and smashes him hard

Yup, and that's what Cotto fans were sayin last July about Margarito.

One thing I've learned with watching Boxing, study both dudes and don't play in to the media hype too much (at least when 2 top guys are fighting). For all we know, Freddie Roach could be pumping the media up with BS and Pac may be having a hard time in camp contrary to what most have been reading on here. Now, I'm not saying Pac's in ****ty shape by any means, but people go ape **** here when they see either guy's training camp whether it be a video of Pac shadow boxing or Cotto sparring and throwing body shots. Hey, I'm guilty of it sometimes too, but again more times than none when you lay your heart out for a fighter totally ignoring who he's facing, you're left with disappointment. Seen it happen too many times (luckily I've been on the A side of the bets more times than not lol)

          But, good luck...

I'll tell you this much...forgetting the plaster, if the same Margarito that came to fight Cotto in the 1st fight put the same amount of pressure and kept throwing punches at Cotto in a 2nd fight, I see Cotto losing again. He without question is in my top 3 favs right now, but he's got a tough time against bigger pressure fighters.

Now again, the plaster is an issue because of how hard the punches feel, but it also doesn't excuse him getting hit as much as he did. But that's a Miguel Cotto fight for you.
