I get some of what he is saying -- that his family is a priority and he isn't willing to compromise on that -- but I actually don't understand what he is on about when he says he is making a sarifice to chill with his family.

Clearly if your family is important, then if you are spending time away from them in the pursuit of a goal (misguided or not), it is a sacrifice. As opposed to staying with your family when they are your priority is not a sacrifice but what you actually want to do. Unless he is acknowledging his is sacrificing his fitness by putting his feet up to watch TV with his kids... Or maybe sacrificing his career by taking 2 years out of the ring to chill...
