By Lyle Fitzsimmons - There are always outliers. No matter the topic, it's never impossible to find those who insist smart money is wrong. The Earth is flat. Elvis is alive. Elections are rigged. Unless, on that last one anyway, your candidate wins.

It’s good and fun to fantasize but look, charlo would need to knock out or at least knock down Canelo to keep him from coming, scoring and winning via decision. Monsters like GGG or even Bivol, given the higher weight, didn’t come close to doing that. Plus all this talk about canelo being on the downslide is overblown. He’s only 33 and fully capable of training his ass off in order to make a statement, which I believe is exactly what he is doing this time around.

Not a chance, you can't have two years out the game and come back two divisions higher beating an active albeit slowing elite fighter who is acclimated to the weightclass.

No. Easy work for Canelo even if Charlo stayed active this whole time. Canelo is on a different level

Gotta take this opportunity to give Jim Lampley his props for the free wisdom:

"People forget these are very fine competitive margins, even when you see a knockout."

          Preach, big man, preach.

Very good point, however in the interests of accuracy it looked very much like Bivol respected Canelo through 12 rounds & didn't step on it in a concerted effort to knock him out.

Pretty sure that's a key reason why the rematch talk has been minimal from the SMW champ.

            Edit: grammar

Theres one true Mexican champion ( Julio Ceaser Chávez) Canelo did his thing but with no big names- the big names beat him, so now he picks a big name like Charlo and you'll see what happens to him - he went after the smaller Charlo because he thinks its easier for him- thats how he got most of his victories - hand picked Champion - not a true Champion

After looking at Canelos pattern of choosing his opponents when he feels they are ripe for the picking, and the 16 months of inactivity for Charlo reflecting that pattern, I wasn't initially confident with picking against Canelo. But.... after watching their last 3 fights,I've seen improvement in Charlo and regressive signs in Canelo. Charlo also has this confidence about him that seems to have carried over into his preparation and in spite of the weight jump, Charlo might actually be the bigger puncher here.
Canelo is counting on the weight jump and inactivity to play into his favor and the hopes that Charlo gets careless and emotionally out of control. I don't see that happening with Charlo. He's likely going to fight a smart, defensively responsible fight but still let his athleticism and smart aggression have a say.
If the inactivity doesn't be a factor and Charlo can handle the weight well and get Canelos respect early, I would not rule out an upset here.

                    1) Ray was having unsanctioned bouts in private to prepare
                    2) Ray was a former champ at 154
                    3) and most importantly, Jermell Charlo is NOT Ray Leonard.
