Comments Thread For: Ismael Salas: 'Not Only Joe Joyce, Even ... I Overlooked Zhang'

The veteran trainer of Joe Joyce admits he fell victim to his own hubris. Joyce, the longtime contender from England, suffered an upset loss to China's Zhilei Zhang by sixth-round technical knockout last April at Copper Box Arena in London. Zhang could hardly miss with his left hand, and he eventually forced referee Howard Foster to stop their bout because of the swelling around Joyce's right eye.

Joyce looked like he didn't have a clue about fighting southpaws.

What's up with these A side rematch's, where they win and suddenly, we are supposed to forget about their loss? Shouldn't there, then, be a trilogy? I don't get it...

Happening right now with Eubank. Smith still laid him out prior.

I didn’t give Eubank a chance in hell, but he proved me wrong. I give Joyce even less of a chance, but it’ll be interesting to see if I have to eat a second helping of crow.

          It's never worked like that.

When a guy on the way up mis-steps and loses to a journeyman, if he goes for a rematch and wins then they move on.

A lot of people overlooked Zhang including myself, that won't happen again. He is a legitimate threat to just about anyone in the heavyweight division.
Except I for Ibelieve for Wilder, Fury, and maybe one or two others, but other than that watch out heavyweights.

Salas is a good trainer, but I don't think even he can get Joyce over the hump with Zhang.

I guess Joyce not coming in much lighter than usual again will be step one.

Then I suppose they should actually train for a southpaw.

ZZ is not a journeyman. He is a problem for all

If it goes to distance, full 12 rounds then Joyce has a chance because he trows more punches. Same like Hrgovic. But Joyce has problem because he blocks punches with his head. If he improves this he has a chance.... Also, ufortunatly for him, ZZ hits really hard and ZZ can take a lot of punches. Only few of them n HW division can survive ZZ punches in my opoinion.
