  • Comments Thread For: Charlo on Crawford: 'I Commend Him; You Went in There and Beat the Big Fish'

Jermell Charlo has no qualms giving Terence Crawford his props. The undisputed 154-pound champion said in a recent interview that he personally congratulated Crawford after Crawford's ninth-round stoppage of Errol Spence Jr. last month at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for the undisputed welterweight championship.

Rematch activated then? That fish already fried but ok. Spence making mistake if he take direct rematch imo.

What mistake are you talking about? Spence is 33 not 26. A mistake would be passing on a big bag that he’s going to get in a rematch to fight some other guy.

Now Crawford is Superman so Charlo wants to take him down--or maybe not. Crawford is tricky and someone said he is like a surgeon in the ring. Little wasted effort.

PBC had a lot of people believing that Spence was the big fish. He barely beat Shawn Porter.

At the time barely beating Shawn Porter was the way he lost fights.

You're right on the part spence already 33 with no more time to waste but taking on the same guy that just gave you a one sided beatdown/ stoppage but now at a weightclass that you have never fought before(assuming it'll be 154) doesnt seem like a smart decision at least for me, but hey If you're one of those guys that think ESJ could do anything different in a rematch against an evidently superior boxer like Bud just to secure another bag...well I guess we must see that then. Notice how Bud already aiming higher at likes of Charlo/Canelo , its clear Spence rematch became just another option for him at this point.

A lot of people are speculating that the Crawford/Spence rematch could be at 154. Well, that means it would not be for any belts. 154 exceeds the welterweight limit. Therefore it would not be a title fight anymore. Why would either be interested in that? Very little gain for either fighter.

I thought the same thing about Wilder/Fury 3 and Wilder was able to improve his performance. At the bare minimum I expect Spence to be a bit more athletic and take Crawford’s punches better at 154. I don’t know if he can implore a better overall strategy we’ll have to wait until the fight happens.
