  • Comments Thread For: Terence Crawford Believes Derrick James Is a Great Coach But Did a Bad Job On July 29th

On most occasions, Derrick James is the cool guy in the room. He sits back, barely says a single word, and doesn't go out seeking the spotlight. Even when confronted, the 2022 Trainer of the Year doesn't sweat it. For much of the build-up between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr., James remained in character. However, during one particular press conference, James found himself screaming at the top of his lungs in a heated debate with opposing coach, Brian "Bomac" McIntyre.

James put his ego over the safety of his fighter by sending Spence back out for another round of punishment.

James always gave off an arrogant vibe. Didn’t have any other game plan besides “you’re standing right in front of him!!!”

I have to agree with Bud 100% on this one! They did not have a backup plan, and should've been prepared for Bud to fight southpaw! Add to that Bud was actually bigger and stronger than Errol! I don;t think they saw that coming either! Salute to BoMac, he definitely "out-coached" Derrick James!

All I know is BoMac is better at eating BigMac than DeRick James.

A trainer is very limited when his fighter is drained, lethargic, fatigued and gets hammered by his opponent. No back-up game plan is gonna work. Maybe hit him hard in his nutsack or bite him. lol

How did Spence managed to give Floyd a black eye and get *ss whooped every round by Crawford?

Derrick James what was the game plan that night?!

After watching the replay, I don't think James did a terrible job. Spence was rattled, hurt, and at times did not listen. He ran into a knockout. As I watched the fight, I was like, "Spence's recklessness by charging head first into Crawford's fist is going to get him knocked out".

I will say there didn't seem to be a plan B, and I was amazed at how Spence couldn't survive the rest of the bout, and avoid a knockout. That's on the coach.

And it amazes me how boxers today do not know how to get a breather. They need to watch film of Ali, Leonard, and Mayweather. They show how to do this in detail.

The only blame James gets is that Spence didn’t have a plan B, C or D. But like Tyson said, everyone has a game plan until they get punched in the mouth!
