It sounds a bit selfish, but some single-mindedness is required here. At least three times a year for eight weeks at a time.

With all the things that have said and done, I'm sure Pacquiao will be at peace with himself by going "there" when his people needs him at the most desperate times, rather than being a 7 division champ and a shot at boxing greatness. It's what Manny thinks weighs more to him to do as a human being, and I'm definitely sure he's not alone in his beliefs...

Reminds me oddly of Barrera's issue with forest fires before the first Pacquiao fight in 2003.

It reminds me of Latino hero Roberto Clemente.

...and I want to be careful here....

As great a thing as RC was doing, losing him like that was not only unfortunate for his family, but also because of the loss of good that he could do in the future.

Manny has to be very careful. I want to see him balancing doing good, with concern for his own personal safety.

You can't be a hero by being too careful, that's one of the job description...

Sure you can. There are heroes in life every day.

Oprah built a school that is educating a generation of young women. That is heroic.

You can be a hero throught AN act... or you can be a hero via a way of life or consistency. Heroism isn't synonymous with personal danger.

For example, if Pac said 'I can't be there, but I'm donating all the proceeds from my fight", would that not be heroic?

no, it's called generosity but not heroic

In my personal opinion, you are taking an extremely narrow view.

For someone who has strong faith they are one and the same.
