Vyacheslav Senchenko defends his WBA welterweight title today

Vyacheslav Senchenko defends his WBA welterweight title today against Motoki Sasaki (WBA #15) at the Sportpalace Drusba, Donetsk, Ukraine.

This should be a relatively easy first title defense, and I think all titleholders are entitled to a soft one.

Hopefully someday we'll see Vyacheslav in with one of the American welterweights!

Hes not a real champion, Mosley has the "super" championship belt. He's got the equivilant of an IBO/IBA belt.

Maybe if one of the so-called "real" champions ever finds the courage to go to the Ukraine and fight him, we may find Vyacheslav is the real deal after all.

I have never seen him fight so I cannot say how good he is, he has a good record but I can't say if its meaningful or not.......do you have a link to the fight he is having later?

Unfortunately, I don't have a link. But with luck, we may find one later.

I like Senchenko. He has the natural toughness and strength that was lacking in the previous WBA titleholder, the skillful but feather-fisted Nuzhnenko.

Nuzhnenko would have had no chance against the top American welterweights, but I think Senchenko would at least put up a good fight.

Do you think he would beat Aydin right now?

I'm not certain because Aydin was impressive in his last fight, but yes, I think Senchenko would have a good chance of winning.
