he doesn't have to have the style. sometimes toughness and chin is enough.

i think tua has a chance.

            Tua is nothing like Tyson.

Tyson never fought anyone like Tua so it's difficult to say how he would do against him. If Tua starts pushing Tyson backwards and against the ropes, Mike is in real trouble. Even Peter McNeeley and Buster Mathis Jr. had him against the ropes.

Tyson had very good boxing skills, quick feet and fast hands though so he could possibly outpoint Tua with a perfect gameplan and Rooney in his corner, maybe TKO him if he catches Tua with combinations, although Tua is difficult to land too many punches on.

It's likely not going to be some one round blowout.

everyone has a chance ...............not 55/45 though.............more of 20/80.................if tua hurts tyson first.............and crack that fragile pysche..................yes he possibly can..................but if Mike hits the tuaman's chin..........it will start to crack...............and will eventually break midway in the fight...............

people like to compare tua to tyson because they're both short and have power and HBO always compared tua to tyson when they would showcase him.

tua is a slugger (and in his younger , more active days a pressure fighter) while tyson is an aggressive boxer/puncher to me.

tyson did apply pressure but that was to get openings for his mid range game. tyson didn't really work on the inside. tyson was at his best coming in from long range to mid range. tyson didn't mind restarting back up in the center of the ring.

tua on the other hand is in the mold of more like marciano. wear you down , take your best shots and try to land his type.

Agreed although Tua didn't always try to wear people down, he would just wait for the one big punch at times.

Here's what George Chuvalo had to say about both:

BL: Is there any boxer currently fighting today that reminds you of yourself as a fighter?

GC: You want to talk about guys who remind me of my style, there’s young David Tua. He’s a walk in and pitch kind of guy. I like him. He walks in. He’s not afraid of anyone. He’s got a lot of stamina and he’s a strong kid. He doesn’t punch enough in combinations but he’s a tough kid.

And Tyson. He’s a tough kid. He walks right in. He’s that kind of a guy. He’s got lots of balls too. I like Tyson. I’d like to meet Tyson and show him a couple of things. I could help Mike.

His problem is he doesn’t know how to fight on the inside. If you take a look at his fight with Buster Mathis, Jr., he exposed that. There’s a chi nk in the armor. He’s too straight up on the inside. If he ever pulled his right leg back, his whole upper body would be at a forty five degree angle. He’s have his head on the other guy’s chest. He’d be safe. The other guy would have no room for any leverage and Mike would have all the leverage. His stance works against him on the inside. He’s easy to push back and he can’t fight when he’s going backwards. But Mike is a helluva an athlete. He’s very quick, got great reflexes and punches like a bazooka. He’s the only guy out there in the heavyweights who can give you goosebumps.

in tua's defense , i think wearing the opponent down is always in the game plan but he just gets lazy or complacent , as you said waiting for just one big punch.

also sometimes even if he does try to wear a guy down , the guy keeps him off or makes him reset by whacking him with a long jab.

Agreed, that has usually been his problem. He has enough of a punch that it works most of the time (against Maskaev, Oquendo, Rahman, Izon) but not against a Lennox Lewis or the Klitschko brothers.

He has a puncher's chance against Wladimir but I wouldn't give him much of a chance other than that unless he somehow figures out a way to get past the jab and effectively pressure Wladimir. Wladimir has learned enough by now that he won't just wilt in the later rounds and allow himself to be caught.

Obviously the Tua of now is probably not the Tua of the 1990's but he hasn't yet lost his greatest strengths, his punching power, iron chin and patience. He'll wait for the full 12 rounds to land that left hook.
