Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua: There's Too Much Emphasis on Winning and Losing

Anthony Joshua hasn't been too keen on the discourse surrounding his recent career moves. The former heavyweight titlist from London will be going up against late replacement Robert Helenius Aug. 12 at The O2 in London.

Win loss record is overinflated in boxing if you use UFC as the example of why it doesnt matter. But this isnt the time for Joshua to start that debate. He s gotta only win at all costs.

Nothing wrong with a loss. It is how you lose and what you look like when you come back. If you are scared to take a punch to the point where it changes your abilities and confidence in the ring, then hang them up, you are done.

The best thing for AJ would be for Helenius to hurt him in this fight, and for him to get mean and come back for the KO. He used to be a good boxer puncher who fought smart and could end guys in the ring. Now he fights scared to get hurt. If he can overcome that, he can beat anyone. But no amount of therapy will do it, he has to believe in his own abilities again and get mean again, go in there to stop guys

AJ has been fighting scared since the Joseph Parker fight.

He didn't want any of Oilskins smoke then. He still doesn't now.

What matters most, in boxing- and sports, in general- is how entertaining you are. You can be 15-0.. but are you entertaining, or is like watching paint dry?

Boxers, at all levels, are entertainers. There is a crowd that expects to be entertained. Most fail in this department.

it's a sport. The object is to win. The guys who win rise to the top. The guys who lose don't.

Floyd Mayweather really was not that entertaining to watch once he got to 147. I'll never forget being at a party watching Floyd vs Pac. It was like all of the oxygen was ****** out of the room lol. Bernard Hopkins was another guy who totally slowed down the pace of a fight. Part of the reason boxing isn't as popular today is because they only fight guys they know they can beat. There are no Matthew Saad Muhammeds anymore. His fights were epic. I get your point, though. Rigondeaux was a supremely gifted fighter who just wasn't entertaining.

Joshua shouldn't be in boxing anymore. He is a hype job from London who was winning fights and hailed as the messiah of the Heavyweight division. Then he starts fighting in the US and faces tougher opposition and then he crumbles. It's like he doesn't want to get hit or engage in wars. Boxing is supposed to be the art of hitting and not getting hit but and some point every boxer catches a few punches. Joshua isn't known for his defensive skills so he will catch a few punches sometimes. If he is questioning his desire to win then he doesn't really want it anymore. Who wants to see a fight when one boxer doesn't care about winning?

Eventually Joshua will fight someone who will clean his clock and he won't have to worry about winning or losing because he will be knocked out cold. When that day comes then we won't have to worry about him changing trainers or whining about winning or losing anymore.
