A fight with Tarvis Simms was never going to result in anything pretty - the exact opposite intention they had when first putting together this show.

As entertaining as the Henry Crawford/Antoine Smith fight was, it should not have gone that far. Am I the only one who thinks that fight should have been stopped? I was scared and nervous, I will admit, for Crawford. His legs were wobbly and his eyes were buggy and glazey for more rounds than this column indicates. Crawford by all accounts was out on his feet. He could not lift his hands to defend himself. He could not sit up straight without the help of his corner in between rounds. I question the decision of the referee and the doctors. In fact, I did not even see a doctor check Crawford in between rounds and I believe the announcers mentioned this.
Surprisingly, Crawford came back the next round and boxed, moved and boxed. He appeared to be getting his legs back but one could tell that he wasn't all there. In the sixth while he was wobbly and drunk looking, Smith never went to the body. He head hunted the whole time as I recall. Has Smith gone to the body, the fight wouldn't have made it to the end of the ninth. Crawford at one point spit out his mouthpiece, not giving up, yet seeming to invite the referee to stop the fight.
The toughest decision for a trainer is to tell a fighter that he has to stop the fight. Mikey Red gave Crawford all of the opportunity to continue the fight and at the end of the ninth, he seemed to be begging Crawford to tell the ref he was okay to continue. At that point you can hear cutman Danny Milano say that he wanted to stop the fight. You could see the look in Milano's face, he feared for his fighter to go back out and absorb the punishment.
So much was made by Max Kellerman of Victor Ortiz's lose. Kellerman says that his reputation was tarnished because Ortiz seemed to quit. Well Crawford stood in there toe to toe while he was hurt. he could not sit up on his stool, yet he said he was ready to go back out for more. He proved to be a warrior. But to watch that fight last night, all I wanted was for him to say "tonight is not my night". Or for the corner to step in or the ref to do his job and see that a fighter was not protecting him self for more than a minute and forty-five seconds. His hands were not up. His eyes were buggy. His mouth piece was spit to the floor.
Crawford proved to be a warrior. Smith proved to be a force that needs to learn how to finish. As entertaining as this fight was, this is how people get hurt. This is how boxer's careers are shortened. This is how fighters become fearful.
As valiant as Crawford was and as sharp as Smith was, I wished this fight had been stopped sooner.

the crawford fight really got interesting whne he got stunned in the 6-7 rounds. It was amazing how he ducked all the punches with his hands down and half out. i don't think the fight should of been stopped. Just because a fighter gets hurt doesnt mean the ref should stop it. He was making his opp miss most of those punches he was throwing

I too agree that a ref should not stop the fight just because a fighter is hurt or stunned, but Crawford was just plain out.
