He wanted the fight, me made concessions for the fight, he wanted the fight at 147, he didn't want anyone else and got the fight. He made no excuse other that his timing was off. Even when the reporters asked if the weight was an issue he said no.
He looked like his regular self the first 3 rounds and then he got figured out and did not adjust.
Idk, Spence seemed physically capable for the most part but his punch resistance and equilibrium did seem like it might be compromised. I don't think we can really say either way without him taking some kind neurological exam. I certainly wouldn't assume that the fight would have never happened because a doctor would absolutely not have cleared him. Corruption exists in all institutions in society.
One thing I will say is that being a sore loser is just as bad as being a sore winner. On the one hand you don't want falsely make things up to take away from how good someone's win is. But on the other hand, you also don't want to blindly ignore obvious signs that a fighter is not at their best in an effort make it seem like a win is better than it actually was. Gotta try to be balanced in both respects.
I could see an argument for both sides but I think the only way to really get to the bottom of it to do neurological exam now and access Spence's previous medical records. Which I imagine the Neveda boxing commission may order either for a future fight or if there's an investigation for this one.
I doubt you're ever truly the same after an accident like that, despite him beating Garcia and Ugas. However, no version of Spence beats Crawford after what we saw. There were intangibles that wouldn't have been overcome regardless. Crawford was just that much better.
Spence comes off as a very humble. He doesn’t seem
to have any care for anything. His reaction to those hating on him after the car crash was that “people are weird” wishing bad things on people they never met.
He doesn’t really react to much. He doesn’t show or tell much to the media.
While he doesn’t say much, you can deduct some issues based on facts:
He was in a life changing car accident.
He had career ending damage to his retina.
Before Crawford contacted him for a fight, Spence told
media he doesn’t have much time left in boxing due to the car crash.
He was off for 15 months (long layoff).
He has already said 147 is hard for him to make.
^This was all said and done well before the Crawford fight was signed.
With that said, as someone who predicted Spence would win, I didn’t see anything stylistically that showed me Spence can beat Crawford even if he was 100% healthy and fighting twice a year.
So it’s really excuses, it’s facts. It’s okay to state facts.
