Comments Thread For: Crawford-Eminem Team Gives Boxing a Big Summertime Win

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - It wasn't the left/right combination in the second round. It wasn't the two knockdowns in the seventh. And it wasn't the barrage in the ninth that finally forced Harvey Dock's hand. No, the moment Terence Crawford won his fight with Errol Spence Jr. on Saturday night coincided with the moment Eminem stepped from behind a curtain, sidled up alongside the reigning WBO welterweight champion and strolled toward the ring with him as "Lose Yourself" echoed through T-Mobile Arena.

For the first time in forever, the sport as a whole came out on top when matched head to head against the UFC, which was going live with its own pay-per-view show a few hundred miles up I-15 in Utah.
Before you ask, no. It’s not based on buy rate numbers.

There's a video put up yesterday where a doctor says Spence shows clear signs of neurological brain damage and he should have not been allowed to fight. Signs that were present in the Ugas/Garcia fights too. But it had gotten even worse for this fight:

      https://********/ShViAKf4V2Q

Cutting weight is especially bad for someone with neurological damage as the last place to rehydrate is the brain. That's why the doctor says he wasn't able to fully defend himself.

His post match interview I compared to some of his pre-accident interviews and the difference was stark. His speech even slower and even more slurry than normal.

Apparently those close to him know he's not the same.

I say all this as someone who wanted and expected Bud to win.

Crawford vs Spence skill level above Trinidad vs ODLH? Fitzy is bad at what he does.

Who the F Spence? Oncle al does a great job at hyping them PBC fighters.

Trinidad or ODLH would kill Spence in the ring, and Crawford beating them remains to be seen.

          Exactly! That's maddness lol

The disrespect ODLH and Trinidad get sometimes is insane

The moment Crawford won the fight was when he walked to the ring with Eminem? Eminem was the highlight of the evening? Is Lyle losing his marbles or what? The ring walk was fine but a rapper, iconic or not, joining you on a ring walk doesn't prove a damn thing regardless of how much you enjoy it.
Don't give Eminem credit for Bud's win. He was the one who dedicated himself to the sport since he was 7. He was the won who grinded in camp, he was the one who developed the skills, tactics and boxing IQ that gave him the win. What a horribly misinformed, fantastical article. Shame on you Fitzsimmons. You have totally lost the plot.

All of this may be accurate but I would ask why his trainer, the man who spends the most time with him in training camp, sparring and pushing himself physically and mentally, didn't notice anything different about Errol. James has known Spence for an awful long time. You would think if something was seriously wrong neurologically, he would never have let Spence take the fight. To be honest, Spence has always talked slowly with that southern drawl. Whether his speech has gotten worse since the accident is debatable.
I'm no doctor and I'm not going to assume I know whether there is any truth to this theory or not until it comes out definitively from a respected, legitimate source. I don't take any "doctor" on youtube seriously regarding any sort of diagnosis, especially on a complex neurological level. Spence needs to undergo serious testing and a series of brain scans and analysis by reputable neurosurgeons if his family, friends and associates have noticed a decline in his mental function or ability to speak properly. I wish him nothing but the best. He has always been good for the sport and a classy, respectful individual.

But it was ok when he fought 2xs prior and won? Or its just now a big deal and a sad story when Spence loses?? Cry me a river!

Besides real Dr.'s cleared Spence to fight, nobody knows if that dude in the video is a real Dr. but I guess its on Youtube so "its gots to be real!"

Spence had several teeth knocked out in the car crash. He obviously suffered a hard blow to the head then. But if you pass the test, they let you fight, I guess.
