Comments Thread For: Robeisy Ramirez Stops Satoshi Shimizu In 5th Round, Retains WBO Title

Robeisy Ramirez enjoyed a quick turnaround to defend his title and didn't waste any time once he entered the ring. The two-time Olympic Gold medalist retained his WBO featherweight title after a one-sided, fifth-round stoppage of Yokohama's Satoshi Shimizu. Ramirez floored the first-time title challenger before an ensuing flurry forced the stoppage at 1:08 of round five in their ESPN+ aired co-feature Tuesday from Ariake Arena in Tokyo.

Robeisy looked poise and sharp in there, he'll hold the belt for a while.

I’m very happy about the outcome, but Shimizu was no kind of test. 37 year-old fighter who never fought outside Japan. Dude was in way over his head. Robeisy did what he was supposed to do.

The only question: Who you got Shakur v Robeisy? Robeisy has a win over Shakur in Olympics.
I think Shakur is definitely faster to the punch but I think Robeisy sits down on his punches more. They are both super sharp and great all around boxers who set up punches and have great punch placement. Both use the ring very well.

I think Robeisy would win, I don’t know why but I would have bet my house on Shakur up until today. I’ve been watching Ramirez not fully sold but he’s been so consistent and now, I’m a believer.

If Shakur gets more pop then I’m leaning towards Shakur because I think he’s a tad bit sharper and faster. Speed kills but Shakur is so versatile it would be hard to time him. Plus Shakur is not just Amir Khan just throwing out fast combos so you would have to be incredible great to get his timing down.

I really hope this fight happens both are great young boxers.

Shakur fights at 135; Robeisy fights at 126. I don’t think they’ll ever meet again in the ring. Ramirez is likely too small to go up effectively to lightweight.

Shimizu ate several uppercuts on his way to a TKO loss by an impressive Ramirez. One-sided fight.

Shimizu had no business being in there versus Ramirez. Clearly he was chosen to fill the undercard with a hometown fighter the fans would pay to see. Nice performance by Robeisy, though, to get the job done in style.

I think your first weight classes are not indicative of your career. Most fighters move up as very few have fought strictly in one weight class.

I don’t think they fight this year but I think down the road there is already some work being constructed to bridge that fight.

Also I don’t think Robeisy is too small at all plus he’s so technically I think he’s style allows him to go up. Ramirez is not just a power puncher relying on just knocking a guy out. Dude has some serious skills

Ramirez is also 29 years-old. He doesn’t look very ripped, even at 126. I just don’t think he has it in him to fight effectively at 135. Even if he does, Stevenson will probably have moved up by then.
