Actually, Rogan has since apologised for implying that Sexton did such a thing. It seems to have been a misunderstanding: as part of the promo Sexton visited local gyms in Belfast, some of which were in traditionally Loyalist areas. But there was nothing done to agitate the communities there - it was just something he was required to do as part of the promotional tour. Rogan recently clarifed this and apologised to Sexton for his outburst (in so many words).
Still, I hope he KOs the kid. I was at the first fight and couldn't believe what I saw - horrific ref'ing.Comment

Rogan is a softy, he had Sexton hurt and looked at the ref to stop the fight rather then finish the fight himself. If he is a softy again, he'll lose this fight.Comment

Nice remark... I just wonder, why your nickname is "southpaw" and the guy at your avy is orthodox
Tells a lot about your objectivity
P.S. Rogan has such a great story - i hope he goes all the way to the championship fight!Comment

Did I claim he was a hero of mine?
The quality of the refereeing in the fight was subpar, an opinion shared not only by many of the audience but by the press who reported the fight.
Issues such as:
- failing to warn or penalise Sexton for repeated headbutts
- failing to warn or penalise Sexton for turning his back
- keeping far too much distance from the fighters when Rogan appeared to have Sexton out on his feet, despite the fact that he pursued an interventionist approach in all other aspects of the bout
- prior to this, needlessly warning Rogan over an apparent rabbit punch despite the fact that Sexton turned his back to avoid being hit
- stopping the fight at a crucial point to have Sexton's gumshield put back in (if it was spat out he should have been penalised)
- Stopping the fight to have Rogan's eye examined in the round where he was dominating the action and appeared on the brink of victory
I try to refrain from being too harsh on refs but in this instance David Parris was inconsistent and did not appear to be in control of the fight at its most crucial moments.
If you are trying to imply my opinions are overly subjective, I think you're wrong. I supported Rogan in the first fight and I will be supporting him again this month. But I also give Sexton his due - he won the majority of the rounds on my scorecard in the first and I've no doubt he has the ability to beat Rogan this time around.Comment

A good fighter shouldn't have to rely on the referee detecting rabbit/low punches. Rogan had one mission and that was to win the fight, he failed to deliver the final flurry of punches to get Sexton out of there and hence gave the other fighter an advantage and the fight went from being in his hands to the hands of the referee and Sexton.Did I claim he was a hero of mine?

If Rogan wants to step up to the next level, he needs to have the psyche of a fighter that belongs to the top, they execute their mission and do not halt 1 inch before the finishing line, that's it, you gotta go all the way if you wanna fight the best.
Having said that, I expect that Rogan will win the rematch unless Sexton improved a lot from the 1st fight, his stamina was incredible weak and he made the old Rogan look young.Comment

I agree, Rogan made huge mistakes in that round -no excuses. He had the opportunity to finish it but didn't. In fairness, he did say that he stopped punching because he thought the ref was coming in to wave the fight off. Still, you only stop punching when the ref pulls you off the guy.A good fighter shouldn't have to rely on the referee detecting rabbit/low punches. Nevertheless the inconsistancy in Parris's work that night was apparent and should be considered a factor in the outcome.
Sexton's stamina was pretty bad alright. Don't think he'd gone beyond 6 before this fight and it really showed. Rogan's the fitter guy so he should try to use that to his advantage this time around. But by the sounds of things he wants to try get Sexton out early. I'm not sure that will happen but if he can keep a consistent pace and cut off the ring, I reckon he'll get the KO in 7.
