Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua: I'm Just Trying to Get Smarter as a Fighter; I Know This Is Going to Work

Anthony Joshua is certain that the stylistic changes he has made in the recent past will pay off, even if others don't necessarily agree. The former heavyweight champion from London is scheduled to take on compatriot Dillian Whyte in a rematch on Aug. 12 at the O2 in London. Joshua stopped Whyte in their first encounter in 2015.

Had to stop reading whe he started comparing himself to Mayweather xD
    The delusion continues.
Take away all the shot old 38-41 year olds & who's he ever beat?
What was it last week? Mcracken never taught him defence despite the obvious defencive differences between Ruiz 1 & 2.
What are the odds on his next loss he grabs the mic again ruining his opponents moment making it all about him.

PLEASE mister Joshua, just stop talking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
youre decreasing your value every time you do an interview!
hopefully Whyte gives you your balls back, as theyve been in his mouth for most of a decade or so, now...

Floyd didn't have to lose to realize he should make changes. He was proactive, Joshua is being reactive. It's good to learn new things all the same but I think he'd have had an easier time if he had planned on changing his game instead of being forced to recognize it.

Joshua seems to over analyze himself in terms of boxing ability because there's no need to make drastic changes; he's a good boxer especially by heavyweight standards. Joshua just has to do a better job of sequencing his attacks and picking his shots because his speed, power, and ability to put punches together are definitely his strongest weapons.

I don't understand the point about take away the 38-41 year olds from his resume because you could literally put a certain criteria on any resume to discredit it. What matters is where those names relevant in the division at the time through rankings or pedigree, which they were.

Furthermore, why does Joshua get the blame for fighting certain individuals when those names were only still in top positions due to thing's outside of his control such as Fury sending the division into free fall due to his personal issues.

It's very similar situation with Tyson were everyone says he didn't fight anyone yet he's the one who fixed all the fractured political landscape in the mid-eighties. It's not his fault certain individuals opted to take drugs, hold titles hostages, or retire.

I think Joshua has a minor case of yips.
I said this awhile back. I think so many boxer(athletes in general) would do a great deal better if they had sports therapist.

He tried being smart against Usyk.

I'm glad he's now said it. It's better than the idea people have on here that he was just scared. Of course he's not scared, no active fighter is scared. If he was scared he'd just go and swim in his bank account. He didn't compare himself to Mayweather - he compared himself to the way Mayweather evolved his style as he got older. Mayweather is just one example of many, maybe even most. He could have equally used Lennox as an example.

As for the Usyk defeats, well Usyk's just a better boxer than him. But his performance in those fights showed he can box - certainly well enough to beat most in this division. And he did need to evolve his style if he was going to avoid another shock defeat like the one at the hands of Ruiz.

It's funny that people on here don't think an Olympic gold medallist and two time heavyweight champion can adapt his style... but a 36 year old MMA fighter can!
