        Kostya's boy has golden future

Strong start...Tim Tszyu is undefeated in five amateur fights. Picture: Mark Evans Source: The Daily Telegraph

NOT long ago Tim Tszyu was a tiny schoolboy swinging on the ropes of the boxing ring at his dad's Rockdale gym like they were playground monkey bars.

Now, in a performance that suggests he may one day be an international star like dad Kostya, Tim is the Australian Golden Gloves junior welterweight champion.
The 14-year-old from Carss Park, who is also a budding soccer champion, upstaged some better-known fighters to win the title at the Caboolture Junior Rugby League Club, north of Brisbane, on the weekend.
It was his first tournament victory and he is now undefeated in five fights, with four of his opponents stopped inside the distance. The tournament featured local hero and Beijing Olympian Todd Kidd fighting before his hometown crowd, but it was Kostya's little terror who stole the show.
With an uncanny resemblance to a teenage Kostya, Tim looked very similar to his father the night he beat Vernon Forrest at Homebush for the world amateur title representing the Soviet Union in 1991.

Dad Kostya, one of the greatest junior-welterweights in history, has not fought since losing his world title in 2005, Tim is continuing the old man's ringcraft legacy.
While Kostya is in Russia doing various business deals, Tim is being trained by his uncle Igor Goloubev, who is married to Kostya's sister.
Goloubev, who has also trained some top pro fighters, including current Australian champion Greg Eadie said: "I like Tim's aggression, he has the killer instinct of his father."
Tim is likely to fight again this Saturday at an amateur tournament at Oakdale, near Camden.
Leading NSW official Paul Toweel, nephew of the former South African world champ Vic Toweel, said Tim had all the hallmarks of potential greatness.
"He is a terrific boxer with the same steely determination as Kostya," Toweel said. 'He is also a real down to earth kid with great family support. His grandfather Boris is always at the fights to support him just as he supported his son Kostya throughout his career."
