  • Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua: I Need to Get My Fighting Spirit Back, Push Myself Again; It's Going to Be Tough

Anthony Joshua admits he needs to rekindle his willpower. The former heavyweight champion from London stated in a recent interview that he is looking to "get my fighting spirit back," as he attempts to take on Dillian Whyte on Aug. 12 at the O2 in London. Joshua viciously stopped Whyte in the seventh round of their first encounter more than seven years ago in 2015. Their rematch was announced on Monday.

Then push yourself against someone who isn't supposed to lose.

Hes pretty much done imo. Only thing he could do now that could bring him back to those 2017/18 kinda vibes is beat Wilder. Nowhere near as meaningful a fight as it once would have been but it still holds weight and I think at this point a lot of people have written him off in that fight, so winning would redeem him and add to his legacy somewhat. **** like AJ/Whyte 2 is totally pointless though, will barely make a difference to anyone even if he ****s Shyte up in the first round.

I feel like AJ is in denial. It’s like he believed the hype that he was some multi-generational talent and is now searching for these non-existent answers as to why he’s not the guy he thought he was.

Agreed. Ive always found the whole "he just needs to be more aggressive" (against Usyk) "hes lost his confidence. old AJ would have won easily" etc comments funny. In reality the guy has done well off of the level of talent he has. Hes a solid workmanlike fighter with a bit of size and power, not a bad fighter by any means but not some incredible talent who was somehow destined to dominate the division for years or something.

he is less in denial than Fury, to be honest.

You are either a Dog or Not no in between. Fact is AJ feels like a lost Spirit because Andy Ruiz took his Soul away in New York City.

Probably hard to regain that hunger/fighting spirit with millions in the bank and no real urgency to get the titles back from your promoter. I applaud josh for fighting still I certainly wouldn't if I had that kind of money.

I like Joshua`s attitude and will to fight on and top contenders still. If I had his money and his career, I would retire after two losses to Usyk.
