Comments Thread For: Frank Martin: The Seven Welterweights Crawford Knocked Out 'Ain't Errol Spence Jr.'

Frank Martin obviously backs Errol Spence Jr. to beat Terence Crawford in their upcoming welterweight showdown. Martin respects Crawford, but the lightweight contender just thinks that the welterweight champion whose company promotes him will provide a much tougher challenge than any of the seven welterweights Crawford has knocked out since the three-weight world champion moved up to the 147-pound division five years ago.

This is where the logic that some people misuse with resumes begins to falter. Crawford has never beaten anyone as good as Spence, so some speciously assume that he can't be Spence. Conversely though, Spence has never beaten anyone as good as Crawford, so that same logic leads them to believe that Spence can't beat Crawford.

The truth is, just because something hasn't or didn't happen, doesn't mean it can't happen (or won't happen).

Best way to predict a fight is by looking at the habit's of each fighter; there's strengths and weaknesses within the ring because boxing happens in the ring not a resume. It's best to look at the patterns of each man and how those will interact with each other.

And taking it a step further (not that it applies in this fight) I've seen fighters take huge shots from big punchers and barely flinch and some would think that if they face a guy who does not hit nearly as hard, that they can't be KO'd and sure enough, they get knocked out buy a guy with less power. Or, they get wobbled by a guy not known for power and then when they face a harder puncher, some expect them to be knocked out and they go the distance and are never hurt. If Boxing is a science, it sure is an unpredictable one. Just like the Triangle Theory. Gamblers who are new to boxing learn the hard way and assume if A beats B and B beats C, there is no way that C can beat A and then it happens. That's why in a nutshell, styles really play a big part and every fight is a near infinite amount of dynamics that paper never captures.

Really that goes for any of Crawford's b and c level opponents that he has faced his whole career. That said, It's an opportunity for Crawford to do something....

Could it be the punch you don't see is always harder than the one you do see.

Ofc he's gonna say that it's his stable mate probably friend. But both guys have shown they can be buzzed in there I think it's just gonna come down to the styles. If I was betting I'd go for Crawford I just think he's more dynamic of a fighter but Errol style basic as it is is very effective so Crawford can't allow him to get into a rhythm

More likely a fighter will the brace themselves better when they are fighting a big puncher and let their guard down facing a lighter puncher and that's a huge mistake. But it can also come down wear and tear and the lighter puncher was the straw that broke the Camel's back. Their chin finally cracked.
