Um landing 22 and 28 percent of your punches doesn't equate to being skilled kid. Joshua isn't a defensive minded fighter . He is there to be hit. Also the last time I checked Mike Tyson and Holyfield were shorter than the average heavyweights. In their primes they weren't landing less than 30 percent of their punches against a slow flat footed fighter like Joshua.
Usyk - Joshua 1 - Usyk landed 28%of his punches.
Usyk - Joshua 2 - Usyk landed 22%
First fight - Usyk landed an AVERAGE of 8 power punches EVERY round during a 12 round fight. His total punch output was 28%
Don't think we saw the same fight. Joshua is not stationary until pressed backwards which like most front foot boxers he doesn't like. Even when he is under severe pressure he is still elusive (see final round of AJ-Usyk 1 )
But when he is attacking or both are in middle of ring he is leaping backwards. For Usyk, this is a problem as he is at a severe reach disadvantage. He has to work his way inside. Not easy but he is a master at doing so and not getting wiped out.
As for your greats of yesteryear - I've always maintained that no current HW fighter could have lived with Lewis or Holmes or much less Ali or even Mike Tyson
Evander Holyfield landed 51 percent of his punches against Bowe in their first fight. 242 landed out of 475 thrown. In their second fight he landed 253 out of 514 thrown for 49 percent. This is a prime Holyfield vs a prime Bowe who was more mobile and more agile than Joshua. Even a old broken down Holyfield against Lennox Lewis landed a higher percentage of his punches than Uysk did against Joshua.
Mike Tyson landed 216 out of 412 against Tony Tucker who was undefeated and much quicker on his feet than Joshua and Tucker did a lot of moving. Hell George Foreman managed to land 249 out of 543 against Axel Schulz a heavyweight known for being a sticker and a mover and this was a 46 year old chubby Foreman.
Usyk isn't skilled. Usyk is just more skilled than slow Anthony Joshua.Comment

Well who is the man a heavyweight? Lol Tyson Fury? Fury has only beating Chisora a guy everybody beats, A old Wladimir Klitschko by running and landing 86 punches in 12 rounds while other fighters have knocked out a prime Wlad, and Fury beat Deontay Wilder one of the least skilled fighters who has ever held in a belt in any weight class. The heavyweight division sucks.
I agree Whyte looked awful when losing to Fury and barely beating Franklin, I also agree Joshua boxed better in the second Usyk fight .The truth is I'm still to be convinced that Uysk is the 'man' at heavyweight as he has only beaten , Chisora , and an out of shape Chad Witherspoon and of course Joshua . So was Joshua's good showing that good? Joshua in my opinion would have easily of dealt with Franklin at his best .All's I Said is this fight is more about which one has slid back the most .Comment

It is interesting just because Whyte will always be aggressive and AJ has looked circumspect.
Whyte didnt come too far off stopping him the first one. AJ stayed hit for a couple of rounds after Whyte rocked him. I need to watch that again but I kind of forget how AJ didn't get put down- seemed more luck that judgement plus he was likely a lot hungrier then.Comment

Its all relative. Usyk IS a skilled boxer compared to the rest of today's HWs. The punch stats are interesting so thanks for those. As I've often said, none of the current HWs could live with those from 70s to 90s - matching like for like - ie champs against champs and contenders against contenders. Mike Tyson would have sparked Fury out cold by getting inside and unloading.
