I am honestly not sure what to make of this. I wish we had more info about this "undisclosed" reason . All i can say is as much as i was looking forward to this fight a fighters health and safety trumps anything else. Wish Virgil the best and wished they had found Stanionis a last minute opponent so his time in training did not go to waste.

Ortiz is playing a very dangerous game if this is from him cutting down to welter.

        When is enough enough?

Terrible news to read this morning, glad I didn’t book a flight to see this line I was planning. I was hoping Schofield-Stanionis was somehow made to at least give us a good event but that’s too unrealistic.

Now the floor is all yours this Saturday, Boots.

I have a Boxing Prediction League going with a handful of personal friends. My prediction for this match was two-fold. I had Ortiz losing in prediction path B. My official prediction was that in fact, around the 11th hour, a health matter at Ortiz end would cancel the match.

I believe Ortiz career is done.

On the other hand I feel bad for Stanionis, man has basically gone through 3 training camps getting ready and now has nothing to show for it. They couldn't find any dude and pay him a few grand for Stanionis to take his frustration out on?
Great post. I’ve had patients die from Rhabdo…even young bodybuilders who looked invincible! Getting it once in a lifetime is rare…this is now potentially the third time. It’s more serious than most cancers! His handlers should’ve made him move up to 160 and grow into the division. Clearly his body cannot handle prolonged weight cuts.

As for Stannionis, man three consecutive camps preparing for war is no joke. He deserves a gold medal for his patience and perseverance.

This was supposed to be the 6 top welterweights July month and we're down to 4. Ortiz may be done as a fighter if they can't figure out how to resolve his medical issues. This weekend was going to be great and now that is shot with only one good fight.

Stanionis did an interview a while back, talking about how he has friends in the UFC. They fight regularly and have a career roadmap. He sounded like he wished he had gone the MMA route instead. Sad!
