Which is why I always maintain if you have become established as a boxer in this sport and you can afford to take long vacations or layoffs, do so. It will never affect whatever status you currently have. We know it's never fair to those who keep themselves active, take more risks, and end up incurring loses in the process. But it is what it is.

I don't doubt these inactive fighters would even be awarded HOF recognition someday. I repeat, long layoffs won't affect your career as a boxer.
